Why is Perception of Beauty Distorted? An Interesting Commentary on Dove Commerical

Posted by rgeitgey on 26th October 2006

I sent an e-mail out to some of my friends today asking them to comment on this article about the Dove Facial Soap commerical. Interesting enough, this video seems to have been produced by Dove. I’m still trying to learn more about it.

In the little video clip you can see how they turned an “ordinary” woman into the model for the soap ad. It’s in Quick Time which is a free and safe download to your computer if you do not have it.
I am looking forward to some comments on this!! http://photoshopnews.com/2006/10/17/dove-illustrates-why-perception-of-beauty-is-distorted/

Blessed Event

Blessing Day Portrait

Isn’t this little fellow darling in his white outfit for his blessing in church? At only 8.5 weeks old in this photograph we find his smile is so engaging. I’ll post some more of him later. RuthEllen

This weekend we had the opportunity to photograph on of the mothers we took maternity portaits of in September. Her son is two weeks old. While he was here he did take the opportunity to open his eyes and try to figure out what all the lights popping was all about. Here’s an announcement card made espcially for him.

Maternity Portraits

Posted by rgeitgey on 19th October 2006

It is no wonder Maternity Portraiture is really popular these days as women have a special beauty and bloom when they are expecting a child. The best time to capture that “bloom” is usually in the 7th to 8th month. We are doing a series of maternity portraits this month for our portfolio. My goal is to have 12 for our portfolio before the end of the month. Did I just write that? Twelve? Only nine more to go. We like to taking images of the mother alone, with her husband or significant other, and with other children in the family. If you “google” images using matenity portraits you can see a wide variety of approaches. Our style is somewhat conservative. Showing the pregnant belly is okay and a relationship between the folks in the picture, but we shy away from portraits that convey a lot of intimacy and we do not do scantly clad or nude images, just in case you were wondering. Here’s a card I made of my “favorite” client, our daughter Julie, with her husband. Please note, too, that we do not post photographs to the blog unless we have permission of our clients and then, we do not give out personal information beyond what is discussed with the client. Most agree to first names and we would advise against using last names anyway.

Our son-in-law is not crazy about having pictures taken, but Julie conveyed to him how much they would want to have these later and enjoy them. He really worked with me during me in the photography session and made suggestions of what he would like after viewing samples. When the previews were ready, both of them were thrilled and happy they had pictures taken of them together. A number of their friends and relatives have said how much they wish they had pictures like this made during this special time in their lives. Here are some more photographs from the session. My WordPress Blog is a NewsLetter

Posted by rgeitgey on 19th October 2006

I’ve invited friends to visit my blog here at WordPress and leave comments. In the age of Internet Business many photographers are using Blogs as a NewsLetter that friends and clients can visit and see what their photographers are doing, learning, etc. I think it will be interesting to use a blog this way. I just started the blog and am still learning how to use applications on it. Our photography website is www.Geitgey.PhotoReflect.com. We are also working on a website at www.Geitgey.com but it is not completed yet. Our son, Adam is developing it for us.

When you visit, please add a comment! I’d love to hear from you. RuthEllen

Montage from Linda G’s Wedding

Posted by rgeitgey on 18th October 2006

This past summer we did Linda’s bridal portrait. She a good friend from work. Warren and I do not do wedding photography, but we do engagement and bridal portraits. Linda ordered a 24×30 print that she displayed at her wedding of the portrait we did. It turned out beautifully and was elegantly framed to compliment the beautiful girl and high quality print. I attended her wedding as a guest and stayed “out of the way” of the photographer she hired to do her wedding photographs along with video photographers and friends her wedding was very well documented. Since my camera is attached to my right hand much of the time, I took it to the wedding and did take pictures that the photographer who was working solo did not venture to or have time to take. I also took a few pictures of the ceremony from the back of the patio where the ceremony took place overlooking Lake Olmstead. One of the biggest challenges in taking pictures was there were so many folks taking pictures and in the pictures and a guy with a big white hat was in my view much of the time!

None the less, I took some pictures she just loves and I plan to post some of them here in the blog. However, since I’ve been posting my grandson’s birth announcements (and we still have not decided which one will become the official one) I decided to add some variety to my blog and post this montage I did from Linda’s Wedding. This is the second one I did. We are deciding on a card for her to send out to her guests with her thank you notes. I designed this one in size 12×12. I like the square format. I add a black boarder with a white key light to most of my wedding photographs to frame them. This can be sized down to say 4×4 or 5×5 or 6×6. Linda could also make a 12×12 print or even 24 x 24 if she wished of the montage. The file posted here is a smaller file for viewing purposes so it will load quickly. As I have mentioned before, files for my blog do not reflect the quality of a print file. If you have a question or comment, please post it.

Yet Another Custom Designed Birth Annoucement Card by RuthEllen

Posted by rgeitgey on 18th October 2006

I am posting yet another Custom Birth Announcement for Peterson I have done. Soon I will have a whole line of these cards! Click on the thumbnail to enlarge it. smblogbluewith-dargerparty-of-3.jpg

That will be one of our offerings. Some of my photographer friends charge $49.00 for custom designed cards. It does take quite awhile to put these together. I’m still learning the ins and out of posting on my Blog. For instance when I started this post I had my entry underscored. I don’t see where to change that. After I added the photograph it changed to regular type. I’ve sent out e-mails to friends announcing my blog. I hope they are will visit it soon and post a comment or two. It is kind of “lonesome” in blog land without comments.

Until later. RuthEllen

Another Custom Birth Announcement

Posted by rgeitgey on 18th October 2006

In Grandma D’s Outfit

We are tinkering around with Birth Announcements. Julie wanted multiple photographs on a small card for economy, now she is thinking of only having one larger photograph and just printing an information card. I’ve still enjoyed designing the cards and, as always learning more PhotoShop as I go. PhotoShop is a never ending learning process. There is always a zillion more things one can learn and do in PS. This post of the card is a much much smaller file than the blue in the previous post, so I did not do the thumbnail link. H’mmm not sure I like posting this small file, it does down grade the image quite a bit. Well, I may edit it out later for a bit larger one. What do you as a blog reader recommend. Please do post a comment.

Thanks for visiting my blog! RuthEllen

Birth Announcements

Posted by rgeitgey on 18th October 2006

This the first one of several layouts I did for our first grandchild’s birth announcement. We have still not decided which layout to use! I’ll post some more later and would like to see your comments. For the Blog and Internet posting we are not including his exact birth date and last names to limit identify theft that can occur even to even the youngest folks.

Peterson Birth AnnouncementThis card was actually sized to be only 4×6 inches. The blog file is actually a fairly small one not suitable for printing, just viewing and quick loading. It does not represent the better jprint quality actually available.

Thanks for visiting my blog.
When you visit the blog, please do feel welcome to add comments. RuthEllen

Second Day

Posted by rgeitgey on 18th October 2006

I signed up for this blog and wasn’t sure how it was going to work. I could not figure out how to add posts and pictures, etc. Today when I logged in, I saw the information right off the bat. Was I blind or just on the wrong place on the blog to do that? The important element is that I now can do it. I also what I believe is the place to click to add photographs. So I am going to add some photographs Warren and I have taken of our grandson, Peterson. It has been so much fun to become grandparents!

Well, it looks like I have to “put the pictures” somewhere I can link them to, no a browse and upload them to WordPress. So now I am off to find out where I will do that as I remember seeing a blip on that when I signed up.

See you later. RuthEllen
